Beware of Cracked Crock
I was able to enjoy this slow cooker for over a year before the crock cracked last night. I reread the owner's guide and it recommends cooking with at least one quart of liquid in the crock. That is great for large quantity recipes but I use the appliance most often for poaching fish.... with only 1 1/2 cups of liquid, which may have been the problem. I have not used the ceramic liner on a cook top so that is not the issue. KitchenAid sells a discounted replacement ceramic liner that with shipping is just under $40 but you have to provide a model and serial number to get that product. Normally the replacement liner costs about $50 w/o shipping and tax.
Broken Crock defective
The second time we used this, we heard popping sounds. I just though that it was the metal frame making noise from the slow cooker heating up. I found no leaks until my husband made pasta sauce a month ago. My warranty is up, so I started to look for a replacement stoneware liner. This item is so expensive and I have put off purchasing the replacement.
I started to look at reviews and found that the stoneware liner has an issue. Check out the reviews [...] all of them discuss how the liner has cracked. I am having a hard time adjusting to the fact that any replacement stoneware liner will have the same result. I spent $[...] on this cooker thinking that KitchenAide would never sell an inferior product. I am mistaken. The stoneware liner should have been made of flameware which is not sensitive to temperature changes. I majored in Ceramics in College and know what can cause pottery to break during the cooking process. This liner was not manufactured to tolerate the slow cooker. I am so disappointed in KithchenAid.
Cracked Crock
I have never posted a bad review on a product before. But buyer beware on this one. My insert cracked. I wish I had checked out these reviews before I made my purchase. I am hoping that this review may help out someone who does not want to take the chance of wasting their money. I called the company and according to them because my crock pot is a little more than a year old I am out of luck, as they are not acknowledging that there is a problem with this product. However, when I think about it - I wouldn't want to take a chance on this product again anyhow. I guess until I purchase a replacement I will be back to using my trusty old rival (albeit smaller) crock pot. Happy shopping and cooking!
